These look good, yeah I said it.
Meanwhile, I can’t seem to find any
used
Regal Sportback GS V6 AWD for under $30,000. Although sites like Car and Driver muse that the V6 is barely an advantage over the turbo 4. I’ll leave that debate for people who have actually driven these.
hatchy boi
Why on earth am I looking up a liftback Opal’s prices? This is what happens when I don’t get enough sleep. Plus...
[quivver] so... much... volume...
Well anyway: happy Monday to all.

I’d rock a liftback Regal. Too bad it’s not manual.

I saw a wagon on the road yesterday, hen’s tooth.

It’s a good daily driver and an alternative to a TLX SH-AWD nothing less nothing more, but I’d take a Stinger GT over either any day.
Even new ones are selling a huge discount. And they’re pretty loaded so you can get a V6 AWD liftback for the price of a top trim Camry/Accord/Mazda6
I found one used Under 30K but just, 10K miles clean autocheck . SOme below $31K

Wow the LaCrosse has a tiny trunk. It has a smaller trunk than a compact car.

As much as I love German engineering, I don’t think it’s a great idea to mix German engineering with American business.

Well, with the Jeep cresting 130k and the Rav over 200k we went and looked a TourX. Wife would have taken it home if it had ventilated seats. Ventilated seats are to my wife what Android Auto is to me, once you have it there is no sense spending that sort of money on a new car that doesn’t. Shame, just one feature short of being really good for the money. I will say it wasn’t fast but then, it’s all a step up from the Diesel Jeep.

Have you driven the sport back and tourx? If so what would make someone choose one over the other? Given that they have similar cargo capacity and interior space?

I have driven the TourX, the regular sport back 2.0t AWD has the same engine specs . https://oppositelock.kinja.com/buick-regal-tourx-the-test-drive-oppo-review-1826777806
I would recommend a TourX over a SPortback unless you want to save money and go for the FWD regular sportback which is down on torque.
Haven’t driven the GS AWD with the V6 but having experienced the 3.6in other GM products, it’s a decent engine and if you want a Sportish car with V6 AWD not a bad option.

That’s a handsome car, I would take the Wagon myself, not too sound too much like the peanut gallery around here :)

Any of them RWD?

I drove a 2016 Regal GS and I liked it quite a lot. I want to try one of the new ones to see how it stacks up. I can’t afford them, but maybe in the future when they start offloading to Carmax, I could.

I think these look far better than the Stinger, but then again I think the Optima SX looks far better than the Stinger.

I looked at on at the Indy auto show. I was really impressed with the storage under that lift back. Overall, a nice looking package.

I like the Tourx styling better myself and when you price them they are basically the same spec for spec but the upgraded chairs in the GS might be worth it. Plus GS only requires regular so actual savings from a fuel perspective despite worse efficiency

I’ve had my 2018 GS for about 5 weeks now. Took advantage of December’s discounts 17% off from GM, $500 Costco, the rest off from the dealer for a total discount of around 22% off of $44k sticker .
Yes there is little advantage to the V6 over the 2.0T in outright performance. The advantage to the V6 though is it runs on regular. The AWD 2.0T doesn’t have much advantage in mpg, so operating costs are in the V6's favor. The V6 also comes with the 9 speed which many reviews prefer over the 8 speed. It also sounds better - although it is a bit too quiet.

I do know that this GS is a dealer demo with about 5k miles on it. The dealer wouldn’t budge much on price and I got mine for only $500 more, but maybe they’re ready to go to lower.
There’s probably several other demos out there. Another one I knew of looks to have been sold. I was only looking at red cars though so that’s the only ones I was aware of. You just need to call around to check.

I look at it this way. The major mechanical components (engine, transmission), and overall platform are American designed. The rest of the vehicle would be German designed, but having to follow American guidelines to keep things simple. Then I would think the German attention to detail would go into the manufacturing.

If you want Liftback+RWD BMW 430i/440i grand coupe and Stinger/Stinger GT are pretty much your only regular options I think. Unless you have big bucks to spend on a Panamera.

The Regal uses the same GKN Twinster torque vectoring awd system as the Focus RS.
(So do t he Buick Lacrosse, Cadillac XT5, Land Rover Discovery Sport , Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar E-Pace, and Lincoln Continental & MKZ also use the same system but those aren’t known hoon vehicles, so...)

RWD anything is pretty scarce nowadays.
![]() 01/15/2019 at 00:02 |

My needs are simple: RWD and turn-offable traction control. And enough horsepower to do burnouts. Too much to ask nowadays.

In particular, I drove an Acura MDX this weekend. Seems to have some power, but the first three gears are so granny that you can't get the wheels spinning at all.
![]() 01/15/2019 at 01:01 |

So what you're saying is, you want a base model Dodge Charger?
![]() 01/15/2019 at 07:43 |
|
Yes, except for the Charger part. I drove a V8 Charger a few years back, an RT model with a V8 and it wouldn’t do a burnout from a dead stop. I didn’t try to brake stand it, but fail. I really don’t like any of those so-called pony cars. I like sedans. With four doors. I’m waiting for an opportunity to wring out a base model Stinger. I check Turo from time to time looking for one. New cars nowadays are just cho ck full of needless rubbish that breaks and needs repairing. E-waste mobiles with expensive headlights.
It ain’t RWD, but I recently purchased a 2011 Mazda 3 sedan and though it projects a LOT of road noise, the thing devours California highways at 85 MPH and I could not be happier with it. 5sp manual base model with disc brakes all around, no key fobs and not even a cruise control. And it moves along smartly.
